Puccini:madama Butterfly

Editor's Note

Placido Domingo conducted this production of MADAMA BUTTERFLY, performed in Torre del Lago, where Puccini made his home in a local villa he owned. The story unfolds as the American Lt. Pinkerton marries a geisha in early 20th Century Nagasaki. In love for the moment, Pinkerton declares his intention to someday find a "real" American wife, and later proceeds to do just that. The loyal and honorable Madama Butterfly chooses suicide over a life of disgrace. The illustrious cast of this presentation features the celebrated soprano Daniela Dessi, as well as Fabio Armiliato, Juan Pons, and Rossana Rinaldi. The costumes were created by Maison Gattinoni, and the sets were designed by Arnaldo Pomodoro.
